It's a movie weekend fans have been waiting for quite some time. Two
films, two male superstars, Bollywood's reigning actress vs an up and
coming sweetheart, a gutsy remake versus an intriguing adaptation - Bang Bang vs Haider promises to be a weekend to remember.
To be fair, the box office battle is barely legal. Bang Bang's budget of Rs 180 crores is roughly six times that of Haider's. Bang Bang's Katrina Kaif has had more Rs 100 crore movies than Haider's Shraddha Kapoor has had releases and finally, Hrithik Roshan is considered among the biggest of Bollywood heroes while Shahid Kapoor is yet to realise his potential.
Bang Bang will release in close to 4500 screens while Haider will be only playing in about one third of that On the flipside, Haider director Vishal Bhardwaj is considered a visionary filmmaker whereas Bang Bang's Siddharth Anand has a flimsy record of two hits and two misses. Vishal's last release with Shahid was a superhit Kaminey which almost gave Shahid's career a jumpstart. Shraddha Kapoor is on a roll with two hits - Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain - and this could be her hattrick.
Though they are as different as chalk and cheese there are some similarities too. Both films have renowned dancers as male leads. Both will include gunfire, lies, love and passion. And finally, both films will play a great role in determining the future of the lead stars' careers. Bang Bang is the official remake of Hollywood film Knight And Day and promises tons of action, romance and thrills.
The trailers and songs have promised a film buzzing with chemistry between lead stars, quirky dialogues, scintillating dance sequences and high-octane action. Hrithik and Katrina light up the screen for a second time after Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Hrithik promoted the film through endorses and some amazing dares issued to his Bollywood buddies.
Haider is Vishal Bhardwaj's version of Hamlet where Shahid plays the lead role. The film's music is nice and it's filled with amazing actors including Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Irrfan Khan. The film marks the completion of Vishal's Shakespearean trilogy after films Maqbool and Omkara, both superhits. The battle is red hot, thought uneven, and all other films for now have decided to stay far away.
